Cellphone bans can work

This letter to the editor of the Edmonton Journal on the effectiveness of cellphone bans to curb distracted driving cites a drop in cellphone violations in New York as a precedent. Enacting legislation in that state restricting drivers’ use of handheld cellphones, and the accompanying publicity, had a strong effect on driver behaviour, even in the absence of publicized intensive enforcement.
